Obviously, if you have a partly or fully digital business, you should be doing email marketing.

For that, you need a list.

And to build a good one, having at least one subscription form on your website is essential.

Integrating Acumbamail subscription forms into WordPress is fairly simple, but you need to understand the two ways to do it and how they differ.

In this article, I explain how to do it step by step, using the simplest method and without any additional plugins.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

1. A form created in Acumbamail.
2. Administrator or editor access in WordPress.

Pretty basic stuff, as you can see.

Step 1: Find your form in Acumbamail

Let's start with the basics:

1. Sign in to your Acumbamail account.
2. In the side menu, click Lists and then Forms.
3. Open the form you want to embed on your website.

Step 2: Copy the code

Once inside, you'll see that Acumbamail offers two options for integrating forms:

1. Simple code: this is the box on the right, containing a single HTML snippet. It embeds the form using an iframe. The styles will come from your WordPress theme.
2. Advanced code: the box on the left. It uses a div and JavaScript for a more customized integration. It preserves the design and styles you gave the form in Acumbamail.

Both options work well.

Choose the one that best suits your needs and copy the corresponding code snippet.

Step 3: Insert the form into WordPress

Let's go step by step:

First, open the page or post where you want to include the form.

Once there, add a Custom HTML block.

Paste the copied code and save the changes.

If you chose the simple method in the previous step, you're already done.

If you're using the advanced method, you need to add the JavaScript.

You have three options:

• Theme functions.
• A plugin such as PixelYourSite.
• GTM: easy if you're adding only a few forms, more complex if you want to add many different ones.

Once you've implemented it by whichever method you choose, save the changes, test the page and check that the form appears correctly.

Step 4: Customize the redirect after subscription

With either the simple or the advanced method, you can choose which page users are redirected to after completing the form.

With the advanced method, you'll do it in Acumbamail (you can see it here)).

With the simple method, do it like this:

1. Find the redirect parameter in the copied code.
2. Replace it with the URL of the page you prefer (one explaining that a confirmation email is on its way).
3. Save the changes and try adding an email address to verify the redirect.

Step 5: The legal side. Double opt-in and privacy policy

Acumbamail enables double opt-in by default, which means users must confirm their subscription through an automatically sent email.

Also, always remember to provide clear information about your privacy policy and the legal basis for processing personal data.

In other words, remember to state that you share data with Acumbamail and the legal justification for doing so.

Once you've done that, your Acumbamail form will be ready and working on your WordPress site.

Final tips

To finish, a couple of final tips:

Check that the form works correctly on different devices, and always keep your privacy policy up to date and visible.
